2007 Annual Award Winners Honored

Special Olympics Florida presented its Annual Awards for excellence during the recent Annual Leadership Conference in Orlando, July 20-21.

The awards honor those individuals and organizations whose personal achievements and/or contributions to the Special Olympics Florida movement, were considered exemplary.

In addition to the annual awards, two new Hall of Fame members were inducted: Pinellas County Schools and Trish Highland. Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor Special Olympics Florida can bestow.

This year's Annual Award winners:
Athlete of the Year: William Corsi, Hillsborough County
Coach of the Year: Carol Rahmoeller, Sarasota County
Kathy Graybeal Family of the Year: the Icker family, Lake County
Paul Burrell Volunteer of the Year: Ron Backus, Palm Beach County
Sheriff Cal Henderson Law Enforcement Torch Run Agency of the Year: the Florida Department of Corrections
Bill Crutchfield: Sue Fitzgerald, Manatee County
Marilyn Grigsby: Taylor Gymnastics, Cheerleading and Dance, Taylor County
Excellence in Athlete Training: Gold's Gym - Altamonte
Local Organization of the Year: City of Altamonte Springs Leisure Services Department
Media Organization of the Year: Miami-Herald, Broward Bureau
