Description:  The mission of Special Olympics - Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes is to improve the quality of life for the millions of individuals diagnosed with intellectual disabilities by optimizing their vision, eye health and visual skills through quality eye care. Some objectives are to provide screenings to Special Olympics athletes and educate athletes, parents and coaches about the importance of regular eye care. Special Olympics athletes who participate in an Opening Eyes screening may be fitted for new eyeglasses or sports goggles at no cost to the athlete.

Criteria for Clinical Director:  Vision Care Professional, Licensed Optometrist or Ophthalmologist.

State Summer Games

Thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time during Summer Games to assist with Opening Eyes.  Our registration deadline has passed. We value your participation and urge you to check back for screening opportunities at our 11 Area Games throughout the state in September and October and our State Fall Classic on October 30-31, 2009.
