Special Olympics is committed to empowering people with intellectual disabilities on and off the playing field. By working to remove obstacles, change attitudes and open minds, Special Olympics provides opportunities for its athletes to demonstrate courage, experience joy and share their gifts, skills and friendship with the world.

While we are a sports organization, first and foremost, Special Olympics over the years has expanded its services in order to help athletes become healthier, more confident and capable of serving as leaders, both within Special Olympics and in their communities.

Because of programs such as Healthy Athletes and Athlete Leadership Programs, Special Olympics now stands as a leader in the field of intellectual disability, making incredible strides in the areas of health, research and policy change.
