Athletes Shine at MLS All-Star Game
Recently, Special Olympics Florida had four members of our Unified Major League Soccer teams participate in the MLS Special Olympics Unified Sports All-Star Game, in Austin, Texas.
Representing Florida were Darian Sierra and Emeric Leon from Inter Miami CF and Logan Walters and Jilliane Mourra from Orlando City Soccer. Both teams are part of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference.
The East All-Stars battled the West All-Stars to a 4-4 tie – the first tie in several years – in a terrific game that showed just how evenly matched the sides were.
Presented exclusively on ESPN, this was the 10th annual Special Olympics Unified Sports All-Star Game. Our Florida players joined athletes and Unified partners representing MLS clubs from around the league.
In Unified Sports, athletes with and without intellectual disabilities train and compete on the same teams. MLS collaborates with Special Olympics organizations across the country to promote inclusion and form Unified teams. Special Olympics Florida’s partners are Inter Miami CF and Orlando City Soccer.
The Unified All-Star Game is a highlight of the season-long Special Olympics Unified Soccer Exchange program, offering Unified soccer teams the chance to experience a professional MLS environment.
Congratulations to Darian, Emeric, Logan, and Jilliane for being such great ambassadors of Unified Sports.
