Celebrating Black History Month
In honor of Black History Month, Special Olympics Florida is highlighting some of its incredible athletes.
Kellie Matthew
- World Winter Games Double Gold Medalist
- Member of Special Olympics Florida for 21 years
- Began swimming with Special Olympics Florida at the age of 9 and later became a downhill skier (her favorite sport)
- “Special Olympics Florida is important to me because it has helped me overcome the fear of socializing. It has helped me overcome fear of the unknown, and it has improved my public speaking.”
- “My favorite memory is representing the United States in the Special Olympics World Games Opening Ceremony. My proudest accomplishment is winning two gold medals at the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy.”
