Recognizing World Down Syndrome Day

In honor of World Down Syndrome Day, we’re highlighting one of our amazing Athlete Leaders.

Meghan Mellentine is a Lee County athlete who competes in swimming, bowling, stand up paddle, soccer, and tennis. She is a Global Messenger and a former County Athlete of the Year who has been part of Special Olympics for almost 30 years.

In addition to being an athlete, Meghan is a dancer and a poet. She is a talented public speaker and enjoys planning events.

“Special Olympics is important to me because it allows me to improve in my sport skills, have good physical fitness, and meet new friends,” Meghan says. “It also allows me to have a voice through Athlete Leadership. I am always ready to learn new things, develop new relationships, and grow and contribute as an athlete and member of my local community as well as the world community.”
