Short Film Winner

Grace Cowan

Congratulations and a huge thank you to Grace Cowan, a rising sophomore at The First Academy in Orlando.

Grace took home a first-place award in the National History Club’s documentary project for the short film she produced honoring Special Olympics Founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver. The five-minute film uses historical footage and images to tell the story of how Kennedy Shriver created Special Olympics and committed her life to building a world of inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. The piece also features an interview with Special Olympics Florida President and CEO Sherry Wheelock.

But while Grace’s first-place finish is impressive, it’s only part of her story. Because after she won and received her $1,000 prize, Grace said she wanted to donate her winnings to Special Olympics Florida!  We could not be more grateful to, or inspired by,  this wonderful young woman.
