Team Florida Turns in Gold-Medal Performance at USA Games
The athletes of Team Florida had an incredible experience at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota!
Our athletes delivered on the playing field and off, representing the very best of the Special Olympics spirit. Across 16 different sports, their performances were record-breaking, and their dedication to their teammates was inspiring.
In total, Team Florida came home with 73 medals – 23 gold, 28 silver, and 22 bronze, the third-highest total of any delegation. The week was filled with dramatic moments, including a new USA Games record in the breaststroke by Team Florida swimmer Victoria Santiago, 23 total medals captured by our gymnastics team, an exciting walk-off homerun that propelled our Unified softball team into the gold medal game, and a thrilling three-set volleyball match in the final round against Michigan, with Team Florida capturing the gold.
It was an unforgettable performance by a truly remarkable group of athletes! You can see photos and learn more on our social channels here: Facebook, Instagram.
“We are incredibly proud of Team Florida,” said Special Olympics Florida President and CEO Meghan McLean. “This week wasn’t just about medals; it was about possibility. Our athletes proved that when people with intellectual disabilities are given the opportunity, the platform, and the support they deserve, there is no limit to what they can achieve. They didn’t just represent Florida; they inspired a nation to see ability instead of disability.”
We are beyond grateful for all our partners, coaches, volunteers, families, and fans who stood behind our athletes and made their dreams come true. Thank you for supporting their journey and for being part of the Special Olympics Florida community.
